Attitude of Gratitude Continued

So far this month has filled me full of the most gratitude I’ve had in a long time. I’ve also felt the most anxious I’ve felt in a long time with today’s election looming. I might as well bake an all American Apple Pie to get my mind off things ;)! Stay tuned for that and for my Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms!

Yoga pose: EXTENDED SIDE ANGLE POSE (Utthita Parsvakonasana)

How to: You can start in Warrior II pose. From Warrior II keeping the front knee bent inhale reach your front arm forward. Exhale place your hand either on the mat or a yoga block to the outside edge of your front foot. Sweep your top arm over the ear (relax the shoulder) and look up toward the sky. Keep rooting down through the feet to engage the inner thighs and hips. Also keep your chest facing upwards and the heart lifted while extending the arm over the ear. Try not to hunch forward. Hold each side for 6-8 breaths.

This pose is great for strengthening the legs and knees, and stretches spine, waist, shoulders and groin. You might also feel a burst of energy once you complete the heart opening pose. Tip: You can also bend the front arm and place the forearm on the thigh for more support.
